David Nutter General Interesting I've seen this before. That's right is NW5 is ALCO? And, great shot and congrats that I seen this photo been on front RP of homepage today! 6/14/2010 2:42:37 PM
Andy Guthrie General NW5! Great catch. (The NW5 was actually one of EMD's first attempts at a road switcher--just an NW2 with a stretched frame, short hood for an optional steam generator and Blomberg road trucks. It looks like an ALCO cause it's actually a stretched yard switcher like the RS1's, 2's and 3's; you can just see the EMD notch in the long hood ahead of the cab. I think they only built 5 or 6 of them.) Again, great catch and nice shot! 7/3/2010 12:04:22 PM
Marlowe Barnes General Just read about and saw this rare EMD model in the Trans Mag Locomotive Special. Your shot depicts the true essence of something so unique. The BL-2 is another such experiment. 10/3/2010 5:32:13 AM
Daniel Savage General Looks like the F is at the short hood end. I wonder if other NW5s ran this way? 3/5/2015 7:01:38 PM
